Drain cleaning costs — guidance, not a quote
Drain and sewer work is priced after the line has been looked at on site. These factors move the cost up or down.

What drives the cost
- Type of work: a basin unblock versus a main drain clearance or CCTV survey.
- Access: inspection chambers, alleys, parked cars and occupied homes.
- Pipe material and condition — clay, cast iron or plastic — and whether roots or collapses are involved.
- Whether high-pressure jetting, mechanical cutting or both are needed.
- Whether the blockage is on a private drain or a water-company sewer.
- Parking, congestion and time on site in dense urban areas.
- Urgency: emergency call-outs versus scheduled daytime work.
Insurance
Sudden sewage backups may be claimable under some policies; wear-and-tear pipe failures often are not. Whether and how much your insurer pays depends on the contract. Photograph damage if safe and request a written scope before excavation begins.
Why there is no price list here
Two blockages that look similar from the fixture can need very different access and equipment, so any fixed price would be guesswork. Official drainage and water-utility guidance is linked below.
